Rose Cecere

Rose Cecere, of Brewster, NY, formerly of Yonkers, NY, died peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday May 4, 2017 at Putnam Hospital Center. She was 90 years old.<br> Rose was born on February 9, 1927 in the Bronx, daughter to the late Giovanni and Isabella (Buono) Cotrufo. She graduated from Walton High School in 1945.<br> On May 8, 1960, she married Gerard Cecere in the Bronx, and they spent just shy of 57 years together. <br> Mrs. Cecere was an administrative assistant at St. Catharine Academy and Fordham University for many years before she retired in 1994. In her younger years, she was a physical education teacher at St. Lucy School, and was actively involved in the Parent Guild. She showed her passion for athletics in sports like archery and bowling. She loved getting lost in any book that she was reading. Education was always very important to her. She especially enjoyed her crossword puzzles, board games, keeping up with current events, and her newfound iPad knowledge. For 2 1/2 years, she enjoyed spending time at the senior center with her husband and their many friends. Her greatest passion in life, however, was her family; her husband, daughter and grandchildren meant the world to her and all the family pets. <br> Rose is survived by her loving husband of almost 57 years Gerard; her daughter Carol Jendras and her 3 grandchildren; Taylor, Joseph and Kayla all of Brewster, NY. She was predeceased by her 7 siblings.<br> A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at 10am at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. Friends and family may visit Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Monday May 8, 2017 from 6-8pm and Tuesday May 9, 2017 4pm-8pm.<br> If you wish to make a donation in memory of Rose, please consider the American Cancer Society.
