Ruth Godfrey Roth Obituary

Ruth “Ruthie” Godfrey Roth, 93, of Brewster, NY passed away peacefully on May 7, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Ruthie was born on April 18, 1925 in Brewster, NY. She was the third of nine children born to Gladys (Smalley) and Raymond Godfrey. She was always proud to tell stories of her childhood growing up on her family farm during the Great Depression. Ruthie graduated from Brewster High School where she met the love of her life Edward G. Roth. The two would become engaged during WWII where Eddie proudly served in the US Army while Ruthie worked as our very own “Rosie the Riveter” building airplanes in Bridgeport, CT. They were married upon his return in 1945. In 1947 they welcomed their only child, and the joy of their life, Sandra Roth Millar.

Ruthie loved to sew and bake and was the leader of the Brewster Homemakers’ Club for many years. She created hundreds of stuffed animals, dolls, and clothing for friends and family. She spent decades of her life volunteering and worshipping at the First Baptist Church of Brewster, NY, where she tirelessly devoted her time to help others. She worked for fifteen years at Guidepost Magazine in the Prayer and Fellowship Department. Ruthie lived her life selflessly doing for others, she had a deep faith and love for Jesus and it showed through how she lived her life every single day. Ruthie always had a smile and a hug (and usually kisses) for anyone who would take them. She had a tremendous impact on everyone she met and her legacy will live on in so many.

Ruthie was pre-deceased by her loving husband Eddie, her brothers: Raymond, Ronnie and Charles, and her sisters: Vivian, Marion and Dorothy. In addition to her loving daughter Sandra, she is survived by her son-in-law Raymond, her grandchildren, Julie Leheny (Patrick), Scott Millar (Brandi), and Kristie O’Neill (Daniel). She is also the adoring great-grandmother to Joseph, Morgan and Macie Leheny, Jacob and Rylee Millar, and Ayden, Brady and Kasey O’Neill. She will also be missed greatly by her surviving siblings, Lois Taylor and George Godfrey and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank the staff at Glenn Hill Nursing home in Danbury, CT for the loving care they provided Ruth for the past several years. The family will welcome visitors at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster, NY on Friday, May 11 from 4:00-7:00pm. A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Brewster at 460 North Main Street in Brewster, NY. on Saturday, May 12 at 11:00am.
