Antonio G. Ramos Obituary

Antonio Guadalupe Ramos was born in Chinantla, Puebla, Mexico on June 4th, 1958, and grew up in the remote rancheria of Amatepetlan in the Sierra Mixteca. He was described as curious, adventurous and a brilliant young boy who excelled in school. He loved running around the Rio Atoyac and wandering through the Amate trees and up the sierra of his town taking care of his livestock. Although he made great sacrifices to stay in school, at 8 years old, Antonio became the main caretaker of his mother and siblings when his father tragically lost his life. Throughout the rest of his life, Antonio ensured that his mother and siblings never went hungry, and was proud that he was able to support his brother's education, purchase property for his sisters to live in and that he was able to build and design a home from scratch for his mother to live in, often at a great personal sacrifice. On August 15th, 1977, he married Rosa Tereza Perez who he had grown up with and met in grade school. They lived briefly in Mexico City before immigrating permanently to the United States and settling in the Bronx, NY. At only 19 years old, Antonio began working at Seashore Restaurant in City Island and was renowned for his gifted cooking and management skills. He trained countless workers including chefs at Seashore Restaurant and was known for his charisma, humor, and work ethic. If you ever dined in City Island, you most likely enjoyed his gifted cooking skills. Tony stopped working at Seashore Restaurant when he was unable to return to work after his last operation for Thyroid Cancer. Antonio and his family lived in the Belmont area of the Bronx for most of his life although he did build a home in Izúcar de Matamoros where he planned to retire. When he was able to travel back to Mexico, he made sure his daughters learned to appreciate the beauty of Mexican culture and traditions. Having spent most of his life in the Bronx, he enjoyed walking through the Botanical Gardens up the street or shopping for fresh cheese and vegetables all over Arthur Avenue. He loved reading and was a self-educated man who was often found making new recipes and testing them out with his family or putting electronics back together just so that he could know how it was made. He is survived by his wife of Rosa of 43 years, his daughters Altagracia Ramos and Marisol Ramos, and grandson Luis all who loved him deeply.
