Obituary

Augustine Carmona Jr.

February 22, 1929 – January 25, 2019

Augustine was a great, humble man who was loved and is missed by many. Our memories of him will always be cherished, He was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather.

Life began for “Uncle” or “Augie” as he was affectionately called by scores of family and friends in New York’s Spanish Harlem on February 22, 1929 (a birthday he shared with his mom). Augustine was the third of nine children born to Augustine and Ceferina Carmona.

Searching through the memories of Augie’s life, here lies a man who defined strength, love and security. Augie’s heart was big and he gave so much to so many. He lived his life the way he wanted to live and in the process blessed generations of family and friends. Augie was a proud man who loved his children and raised them to be strong, honest and true. He was not the sort of person who would dictate; instead he would implore others to search within themselves to come up with answers they sought. Everyone that came into his universe had a voice and a special place in his heart. Augie will be remembered for all of the good times his presence brought to holidays, birthdays, vacations, dances, dinners, and the list goes on, and on. Anyone who loved and knew Augie can speak to his amazing character and humility. Augustine was not a perfect man, but, a great man in his own right.

Augie’s love of education was his passion. He spoke multiple languages fluently, held a pilot‘s license and attained Masters Degrees in various disciplines. He instilled the love of education into his children and family members and was readily available to provide encouragement and support.

He was preceded in death by his parents Augustine and Ceferina; former wives Alma and Eileen; siblings Arcadio, Anna, Felix, Monserrate and George; and daughters Regina, Ceferina, Margo and Karen.

Loved ones who will miss Augustine until they meet again are his sisters Julia and Anna Delia, brother Carlo, daughters, Zina (Lewis), Holli, Myra, Hetti, Hope (Scott), Kim (Adrian), Jacqueline (Raymond), Cynthia (Bryan), son Richard and many, many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Augustine would not want his passing to be mourned, rather, dwell fondly on the jewels of knowledge he imparted to each and every person he knew.
