Barbara Layton

Barbara (Bunny) Layton was born in Harlem, NY on November 28th, 1940 to Leon Alston (deceased) and Veora Peterson. Barbara was one of six children. She grew up attending Catholic and Public Schools in New York City and later became employed as a seamstress, for a short period. On July 1st, 1961, Barbara was joined in marriage to Rudolph Layton, and together, they had three children. Barbara was a devout Jehovah Witness who spent majority of her life serving others as a Community Caregiver and a Foster Mother for many years. She was known to have a golden heart, someone who truly cared for all and who attempted to help in any way that was possible. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading a good novel, watching movies, listening to music, buying stylish apparel, collecting dolls, spending time with her family and friends, and taking opportunities to Witness and to study with others. On January 31st, 2017, at the age of 76, Barbara Layton went to sleep in death to await the resurrection, after a courageous battle of cancer. Barbara is predeceased by her father Leon Alston and granddaughter Tajara Layton, but survived by her mother Veora Peterson, husband Rudolph Layton, brothers Richard Alston, Leon Alston, and Fred Alston; sisters Portia Alston and Natalie Alston; children Lisa Davis and son-in-law Joseph Davis, Errol Layton, Veora (Pugsley) Layton-Robinson and son-in-law Zach Robinson; several grandchildren India Davis, Eric Layton, Tacina Layton, Cheyenne Davis, Lakota Davis, Kiowa Davis; one great grandchild Edre’ Eve Layton, as well as aunts, cousins, and close friends. Barbara (Bunny) Layton will be truly missed by her family, friends, and all that knew her.
