Fred Todino Obituary

Fiorellio "Fred" Todino was born in Bronx, New York on December 6, 1933 to Pasquale and Josephine Todino, with siblings Gloria, Janice, and John. At only 17 years old, Fred lied about his age to enlist in the U.S. Air Force where he served in the Korean War. After returning home, he went on to become a professional boxer, fighting at Madison Square Garden and Nicholas Arena, with a heavyweight championship record 3 wins - 0 losses- 2 draws. One night in 1959, Fred met the first love of his life, Mary Rizzi-Todino, after his friend Sal Bonomole (future best man) asked him to take a ride to White castle with Ann Scrocca ( future maid of honor) and her friend Mary. Fred and Mary soon married on September 3, 1960 and they had 5 kids in 6 years - 3 sons: Vincent, Frank, and Christopher and 2 daughters : Lisa and Laura. On September 12, 1963, the day his son Christopher was born, Fred bought a backhoe and shovel and started his first business: Fred Todino & Sons, Inc. The family business flourished with the help of his wife, Mary, and was eventually turned over to their children. The family business was only one of many legacies he left behind. Fred helped build the Throggs Neck Little League field and coached baseball for his sons at the Little League field and at St. Raymond's High School with Mr. Ron Patnosh, where they went onto win the city championship at Yankee Stadium in 1980. Fred was heavily involved in the community and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Frances de Chantal for many years. After 35 years of marriage, Mary lost her battle to breast cancer. After joining the widow and widowers club, Fred met his second love, Rosalie Spata-Ponzo. Rosalie and Fred were married on March 15, 1997 and Fred gained a son, Sammy, and a daughter, Maria. Fred was blessed to leave behind his children, his daughter-in-laws, Maureen, Anna and Hanane, his son-in-laws Louis and John, and 23 grandchildren: Dianna, married to Mike, Christopher, Cristina, Dina, Raul, Vincent, married to Lauren, Michael, Jennifer, Nicholas, Louis, Nicole, Salvatore, Samantha, Anthony, Victoria, Lauren, engaged to Brian, Frankie, Jonathan, Daniel, Michael, Paulie, married to Brittany, Mark, and Mathew. Fred was the patriarch of the Todino family and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at his condo in Boca Raton, Florida. He spoke "high Italian" and was a true jokester. And to quote one of his famous sayings "I may not always tell the truth, but I never tell a lie" Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM and Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 AM at Saint Frances de Chantal Church. Entombment will follow at Saint Raymond's Cemetery.
