Icilma Isaac

Icilma Basilia Isaac born to parents Muriel and Raymond Isaac on April 29th 1936 in the island of Antigua. She was the 1st of 5 children. From a young age Icilma’s mother Muriel would call her “Pet” since like any other child she’d always follow her around. Since Icilma was the oldest, her mother struggled to send her to private school so she would be able to get a good job and help with her siblings. Which she did, she went to work at Mendes where she was a very dedicated worker and soon became manger. Icilma never got married or had children but she didn’t miss out on motherhood. She raised many nieces and nephews. That was when “Pet” became “Mommy Pet”. When her sisters June and Annetta went abroad she raised their kids Sabrina and Horatio as her own. Leaving anyone who didn’t personally know them to think she was their actual mother. After a while she also took care of Horatio’s sister Sophia, but when Sabrina left to join her mother abroad she soon joined them in her sisters home in the Bronx. Where she and Sabrina then lived together in the 1st floor apartment. When Sabrina had kids she loved them like her own grandkids and they loved her as their grandmother in return. She was the born nurturer, always making sure Diana, Danielle and Dominique had all that they needed while giving endless unconditional love and discipline when they earned it. Icilma used to work at the Morningside Nursing Home alongside her sister June. She worked there for many years before retiring in 2005. In 2012 Icilma lost one of her little sisters, Annetta in a fire in June’s home where they all lived, along with her sister June’s grandson Jahvonte and husband John. This tragedy temporally displaced the family. During this time she was able to live with her other granddaughter Diana for a year until God reunited everyone to their normal living arrangements. Icilma was also really happy to be back with her sister June. She’d look forward to their weekly shopping trips, Church on Sunday and just hanging out in the living room watching their shows. The Golden Girls as her niece Joann and many other would call them. Her loss comes to as a shock and surprise to so many of us and is still hard to believe or accept . Left to mourn, her sister June Debro, Brother Clayton “Brods” Isaac, nephew/son Horatio Dias, niece/daughter Sabrina Gonsalves, nieces Sophia Zachariah, Joyce Tingling & Joann Debro, nephews Joel Isaac , Steve McSween & Craig Rollins , nieces/granddaughters Diana Stevens , Danielle Gonsalves, nephew/grandson Dominique Royer Jr, nephew Jonathan Debro & nieces Jamella DeCambre, Denisha Tingling, Jahnaye Smith, Deshaye Tingling and Janiya Tinging, great-nephew/great grandson Tormaine Stevens Jr & great grand niece Majesty Tingling-Meyers. Cousins Adrienne Bazemore & Stacey Warren. Along with the Overyby family, and grandson In-laws Tormaine Stevens Sr and Keron Clifford. Icilma had a special bond with each of these individuals listed in addition to many cousins and friends in Antigua and around the U.S. She has taken the path that we all must take, she is with the Lord and reuniting with many lost loved ones. Her parents Muriel & Raymond, her sisters Carolie and Annetta, cousins Desmon and Florence, long time friend Carlton and many more. A Queen, a mother, an aunt, a friend. We all love you dearly Icilma, your heart was always pure and tongue always sassy. Sensitive, yet unaware of her own strength. You were the embodiment of a true lady. God was always 1st and now you can be with your father, until we meet again ...
