William Marano Obituary

William (Bill) Albert Marano was born on December 20, 1929 in the Bronx, New York to the late Albert and Grace Marano. Bill transitioned on September 24, 2019. Bill attended public school 83 and Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx. In 1951, he married his high school sweetheart Connie Morisi, starting a family while remaining in the Bronx. Bill worked as an independent construction contractor for many years. In 1973 he became employed by Antonio Piccini and Sons in Brooklyn New York as a truck driver delivering imported Italian goods. He later became a salesman for Ferro Foods in Brooklyn selling Italian imported foods. During his tenure with Ferro Foods he won many outstanding salesman awards. His expertise in cooking, knowledge of the food industry, strong relationship with the various food markets and Italian delicatessens, as well as having a engaging personality, allowed him to earn him these various sales honors. He retired in 1987. In 1991 Bill remarried to Carol Matzinger and moved from the Bronx to Mount Vernon New York where he raised a family with Carol, having two children and helping to raise five children in total. Bill was an Italian and Bronxite through and through. He lived over 50 years in the Bronx where he was a passionate New York Yankee and New York Giant fan. Most all of the famous Italian restaurants and salumerias in the Bronx knew Bill. On occasion when he would visit the food markets of Arthur Avenue, he would be welcomed with loud cries from the owners “Hey Billy, Como sta? Come over here and say hello”. If he walked into a restaurant the owner would immediately welcome him and his family emphatically declaring that whatever he wants the cook would make it. He was well loved and respected in the neighborhood. Bill enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Playdrome bowling league for over 25 years. He was an outstanding bowler who once rolled a 300 game. He loved to dance enjoying all types of music. His talent for cooking was unmatched. Learning from his mother and his wife Connie, a Sicilian who prepared traditional Sicilian recipes, he became an outstanding cook. He was a committed father who was proud of all his children, a subject he often bragged about to many of his friends. He was a caring and loving man who accepted all people and judged based on character not color, background or wealth. He taught his children those same values. Bill is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Grace Marano, his wife Connie, and his brother Richard (Dick) Marano. He is survived by his four sons, Rick Marano, Billy Marano, Christopher Matzinger, and Jason Marano, his daughter in law, who he brought into his heart as his own daughter, Angela Marano (wife of Rick), niece Jody Marano, his grandson Andrew, his two great grandchildren Mia and Niylah, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews from Italy and several stepchildren.
