Marie Dilia Payen Obituary

Marie Dilia Payen, known intimately to family by her nickname, Doute or simply Dilia, returned to her heavenly home on May 10th, 2020 at the age of 68. Her loving spirit and radiant smile will be cherished forever. Dilia was born to the late Solange Alexis and Lionel Sansaricq, on January 2nd, 1952 in the town of Jeremie, Haiti. A short time thereafter, Dilia and her parents moved to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti when she was only three months old. Several years later in the mid 1960s, her parents moved to New York, and were later joined by Dilia and her younger brother, Mario Sansaricq, in the summer of 1972. Inspired by her caring nature and her devotion to helping others, Dilia pursued a career in Nursing and graduated from Long Island University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing on February 5th, 1993. She decided to continue her educational advancement and acquired a Master of Science in Nursing from Long Island University in 1997. Dilia worked at Mount Sinai Hospital as a Registered Nurse for 21 years. She dedicated over 30+ years of her life working in the nursing profession providing care to others. Dilia fell in love and married Pierre Laurent Payen on December 11th, 1976 in Brooklyn, New York. They enjoyed a long lasting marriage of over 43 years and out of this beautiful union, they have three children, Marvin, Leilah, and Vanessa. Together, they raised their children instilling in them a strong spiritual foundation rooted in a Catholic School education. Dilia was an extremely driven, energetic, strong, spiritual, and passionate being. Throughout her life, it was clear that her family was her world. Her unconditional love and countless sacrifices are immeasurable. She will be remembered for her love of dancing and music, particularly Haitian Music. Whether at home or at a party, Dilia loved to dance and lose herself in the music. Another favorite pastime of hers was cooking. She enjoyed cooking for her family and guests. The house often boasted the aroma of a good home-cooked meal. Many mornings and afternoons, Dilia spent several hours tending to her garden. She loved plants and a variety of colorful flowers. Gardening brought her great joy and was a form of peaceful recreation. Her home was her sanctuary, and she found happiness in decorating the family space with her personal touch. Dilia's influence in the home was often felt during Christmas. She was delighted to decorate the Christmas tree and to adorn the window with the Nativity Scene. Her essence could be felt in everything from the choice of furniture, to family pictures, and artistic selections in the home. Dilia was the perfect blend of gentle love and relentless strength. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones, but the unforgettable memories that she left behind are forever etched in our hearts. Dilia will be fondly remembered by her husband, Pierre Laurent Payen. Her much loved children, Marvin Payen, Leilah Stephens, and Vanessa Singleton. Her precious grandchildren Amayah Payen, Brielle Stephens, and Nathaniel Payen. She is survived by her dear siblings, Ambert, Mario, Adeline, Pradel, Barbara, and Lionel Sansaricq. She is also survived by several adored brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. "The journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take." We celebrate Dilia's eternal life, reunited with her creator.
