Cosmo Elmo Obituary

Gus Elmo was a resident of Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights for his entire 98 years of life. He was the dutiful son of Mary and Joseph Elmo and the devoted brother of Carmela, Sid and Joseph. He served honorably in the Pacific in World War II and returned to a long career as a letter carrier in Bay Ridge until 1981.Gus was a parishioner at St. Bernadette Parish for 60 years and a board member of the Society of Saints Cosmo and Damian for approximately the same time. In his earlier days, Gus was an avid fisherman, golfer and bowler. He enjoyed regular visits to Aqueduct Raceway and avidly followed the fortunes of the Mets and the Jets up until his last days. Gus had eight nieces and nephews and remained a symbol of family stability and a regular at Sunday dinners right up until his death. A compassionate and deeply religious man, Gus was a gentle and unassuming member of the Greatest Generation.
