Giuseppe Rizzo Brooklyn, New York Obituary

Giuseppe Rizzo

Giuseppe “Joe” Rizzo, a loving father, husband and grandfather, was reunited with his beloved son in heaven on March 22, 2020 at the age of 80. He was the second of eight children born and raised in Montemaggiore Belsito, Sicily. A lifelong learner, he loved school but began work at a young age in order to help his family. At the age of 18, he moved to Palermo to study cabinet-making and became a master craftsman, furniture maker and designer. He immigrated to the US in 1963 and took up residence in Brooklyn, New York. There, during ESL night school, he met and courted his beautiful wife Maria of 52 years. Together, they raised three children, Francesca, Susanna and Anthony. He was an extremely involved and supportive father who encouraged his children to be happy, pursue their dreams, and never lose faith. Giuseppe was an entrepreneur whose vision and determination built a successful business in the garment district of Manhattan. He was a proud American citizen, who closely followed politics and voted in every election. He was a devout Catholic and active member of Our Lady of Grace Parish. In retirement, he worked tirelessly on his vegetable garden and gardens that he created at his daughters’ homes. He was very tech savvy for his generation and was one of the first to own a video camera and figured out new technology with great interest. With his resounding laughter and a smile that lit up the room, Giuseppe was truly loved by all who knew him. A devoted, generous and selfless husband, father and grandfather, his happiest days were spent in the frequent company of his family, especially his grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Joseph and Sofia.
