Joseph Cicchelli Carmel, New York Obituary

Joseph Cicchelli

Joseph “Joey” A. Cicchelli passed away at the age of 75 on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 surrounded by his family. Joey was born in the Bronx, NY on January 8, 1944. He had very fond memories of growing up in the South Bronx, attending Our Lady of Pity Elementary School, and when he was 18 he joined the Navy. He served over 4 years on various ships, including the USS Pocono AGC flagship under Admiral John McCain Sr. After the Navy, he went back to the Bronx, where he met and married Mickie (Margaret) Pezza and then made their home in Astoria, Queens. He was able to follow in his father’s footsteps and joined Local 731, where he worked 40 years on everything from tunnels, bridges, airports at many points around NYC. He was very proud to be part of Local 731 and was an active member until he passed. He also became a member of the Knights of Columbus and was honored to make his 4th degree in the Knights and was named Knight of the Year for 2015. Joey was also proud of his lifetime membership to the VFW Mahopac Post 5491. He was blessed to have the love of his wife Mickie for 50 married years and they were able to have friends and family celebrate their milestone just this past May. Along with Mickie, Joey is survived by his son, Joseph A Cicchelli Jr. (and his wife, Lynn) and his daughter Janeen Espinel (and her husband, Kenny). He was a devoted “Pop-Pop” to his three grandsons, Kenny and Jayson Espinel, and Joey A. Cicchelli III. He is also survived by his two sisters, Janice Masters and Sylvia Gallo, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
