Betty Kuntz

Betty Lou Kuntz, 92, was born March 9, 1925 in Marion, Ohio to Karl W. and Lena (Allison) Kraft. She passed away on July 27, 2017 at Grace Pointe in Greeley, CO. Betty spent her early childhood in Aurora, Illinois. She had 3 siblings, Patricia, Don and Joyce. When she was in the 8th grade, her father, who managed S.S. Kresge stores, was transferred to Freeport, Illinois, where Betty graduated from high school in 1943. She dated Robert George Kuntz whom she married at Embury Methodist Church on January 5, 1946 after Bob returned to Freeport after serving in the Army during WWII. Betty and Bob had two children, Sue Allison and Stephen Robert. Betty worked from home doing bookkeeping for several of Bob’s businesses including the Sizzle Shop, a 1950’s diner and Kuntz Hometown Real Estate. She was a member of the Freeport Garden Club and had a particular love of flower arranging. She competed in garden shows and received a Best of Show ribbon. A longstanding member of Embury Methodist Church in Freeport, her favorite volunteer projects included making holiday decorations to sell at the annual Christmas bazaar and decorating the alter. Betty served as an officer with the Amity Society of Freeport. She served on the board of Park View Retirement Home, was a member of Sorosis Club and volunteered with the Community Chest. Betty enjoyed counted cross stitch, painting, sewing, crafts, card games and most of all, entertaining friends and family. Betty and Bob enjoyed their houseboat on the Mississippi River, their condo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and spending some winter time on Mustang Island in Texas. She loved to play golf with friends and played until her mid eighties. She competed with the women’s golf association at the Freeport Country Club. She was quite proud of her hole-in-one and frequently wore a gold necklace that commemorated this event. All of the grandchildren learned to drive the golf cart when visiting Grandma and Grandpa. Three years after her husband Bob’s death in 2004, Betty moved to Greeley, to be closer to family. She continued to play golf and kept active playing bridge multiple times a week at the Greeley Senior Center and later at Columbine Commons. She attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greeley. In 2014 Betty moved to Columbine Commons Assisted Living in Windsor, CO. In the fall of 2015, she moved to Grace Pointe in Greeley. Betty is survived by her sister, Pat Garrity; daughter, Sue (Steven) Kading of Windsor; son, Stephen (Darles) Kuntz of Leawood, KS and grandchildren, Matthew (Samantha) Kading, Sarah (Matthew) Coomber, Elizabeth (Ben Scully) Kading, Geoffrey (Sharon) Kuntz and Darci (Chad) Struckmann; seven great grandsons, Atlas, Ansel and Otto Kading, Alistair Coomber, Nolan and Bennett Struckmann and Cy Kuntz; nieces, Peggy Cerra, Susan (Myron)Bish, Sandra Kraft and Pam (Dan) Wessel and nephews, Bill (Ruth) Kuntz, Larry (Lana) Kuntz, Mike (Sue) Garrity, Bob (Marsha) Garrity, Paul Schirmer and Matthew (Renee) Schirmer. Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings, Don Kraft and Joyce Schirmer, and niece, Natalie Kraft. An inurnment service will be held at Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum, 2619 W Pearl City Road, Freeport Il, on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:30 am. A memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Ave., Greeley, CO on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11:00 am. Memorial Contributions may be made to “Freeport Community Public School Fund”, “Our Savior’s Lutheran Church”, or “Weld Food Bank” in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
