Diane Gaggin Obituary

Diane Coolican Gaggin, 65, of Fayetteville died peacefully following a long battle with cancer, on December 14, 2019. She was a graduate of John Carroll University in Cleveland, and Jamesville-DeWitt High School, returning to Central New York where she met her husband and would raise her family. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Fayetteville Garden Club for over 30 years. She was committed to bettering her community through volunteering throughout her life, from the FM school district in support of her children’s education to multiple community event committees and initiatives no cause was too small. Diane was a brilliant writer, an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and her quick wit and incredible mind for trivia will be missed by many. A pianist and composer, when she would play during the humid nights of summer it was as though the notes floated up the stairs lulling her children to sleep. She was a loving wife, mother and friend whose compassion for others and ability to strike up a conversation anywhere with anyone was admirable. She greatly enjoyed spending time with family in the Thousand Islands and in Florida. As a lacrosse wife, she traveled with her husband to Australia and Europe having adventures and making friends along the way. She long desired to make the pilgrimage to Ireland to explore her family history. She died in the early hours of the morning which had always been her favorite time of day as it allowed for quiet contemplation before the day’s activities unfolded. She is survived by her husband of 41 years Tom and her children Kelly and Tom; sisters Susan Scheller (Douglas) and Shauna Coolican; several nieces and nephews; and many others who brought much love and light to her throughout her life and final journey. She is also survived by her grand-dog Addie, who provided a healing and calming presence throughout her illness. The family thanks the staff at Hematology Oncology Associates, and Crouse Hospital for the care Diane received throughout her illness, and their commitment to ensuring a peaceful end of life journey. In keeping with Diane’s love for others, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to: Make-A-Wish of Central New York, Catholic Charities of Onondaga County Refugee Services program, or Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. https://cny.wish.org/ https://www.ccoc.us/ https://www.helpinghoundsdogrescue.org/
