Dorothy "Dotty" Putman Obituary

Dorothy “Dotty” Putman, 87, formerly of Carmichael, CA and resident of The Nottingham Center, passed away surrounded by her loving niece and caregiver, Carol LeMon, Jeffrey LeMon, and her sister, Helen Dixe. Born on June 16, 1933, she was the daughter of August and Alice Michaels and grew up on a farm in Liverpool, NY. She began her career as a secretary at General Electric and (on a dare from her bosses) answered a newspaper ad to take the Foreign Service Exam. She showed them! Having passed the exam, Dotty began traveling the globe, serving as secretary to numerous ambassadors worldwide for the U.S. Department of State. She married the love of her life, Earl “Put” Putman in 1973 and they continued to travel together until his passing in 1984. With her passion for adventure, she continued to see the world long after her retirement. Trips included all continents, even Antarctica. However, despite living in California for many years, it wasn’t until a visit from her niece Carol and family that she would finally visit Mexico. Dotty will be lovingly remembered for her fabulous wealth of knowledge, spunk, wit and humor. She was predeceased in death by her brothers, George, Henry and Robert Michaels and sisters Arlene (baby) and Elizabeth “Betty” Cain. She is survived by her sister Helen Dixe, brother Charles (Judy) Michaels and ten nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the caring staff at The Nottingham and Crouse Hospital for their care and compassion over the last four and a half years. Per Dotty’s wishes there will be no services. She plans on taking her last trip back to California!
