John LaValley Obituary

FORT EDWARD John L. LaValley, 62, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fort Edward on October 1, 1946, he was the son of Perley and Katherine (Forcier) LaValley. John graduated from Fort Edward High School. After graduation he was a boiler tender on the USS Thor ARC4 and was stationed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. When he returned from service he went to work at Finch Pruyn in Glens Falls as a machine tender. After his retirement from Finch he worked at Lowe’s in Queensbury in the hardware department where he made many new friends. He enjoyed being the flag carrier for the Vagabond Drum Corp participating in many local and inter-state parades and competitions. He especially enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren and seeing them grow up. Besides his parents he was predeceased in 1999 by his wife Claudia LaValley. Survivors include his children: Katherine Culver of Fort Edward; Nicole LaValley of Mineville; John LaValley, Jr. of Mineville and Shawn LaValley of Mineville; his grandchildren: Elizabeth Simpson of Glens Falls; Mariah Simpson of Glens Falls; Justin LaValley of Mineville; Melina LaValley of Mineville, Dylan Culver of Fort Edward; Mark Humphreys of Fort Edward; Natalie LaValley of Witherbee; Isaiah Douglass of Fort Edward; his three sisters: Beverly LaCross and her husband Eugene of Ocala, FL; Linda Tougaw and her husband Robert of Fort Edward; Rose Jordan and her husband Ernest of Mineville and his two brothers Louis LaValley and his wife Rose of Hudson Falls and Perley LaValley of Troy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. At John’s request there will be no calling hours. A service and burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
