Sally Godfrey Fort Edward, New York Obituary

Sally Godfrey

Fort Edward It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sally Ann Godfrey. Sally passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 22, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital. Sally was the daughter of Francis and Alice King born on August 15, 1929 in Fort Edward, New York. She graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1946 and went on to work at the Glens Fall Insurance Company. On April 17, 1949, she married the love of her life Lawrence Godfrey. Together they raised six children in a home they built together. Sally was happy to be home raising the children and providing a loving home environment for her family. As the children grew, she returned to work as a clerk in Erlangers Clothing Store, and later as an office manager in Doyle’s Home and Garden Center. Sally loved people and enjoyed working with her coworkers, many of whom were lifelong friends. She was well known for her lemon meringue pies. She loved family gatherings and celebrating all holidays. Sally was the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. One of her favorite past times was playing bridge and pinochle with her good friends. Sally and Larry enjoyed their road trips, especially their trips to Maine and Ireland. She was an avid fan of all her children’s and grandchildren’s sports. Above all, Sally loved her family and all her grandchildren and great grand babies. She loved her church and was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. Sally was an active member of the Fort Edward Branch of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild, a Cub Scout leader, and a member of the Fort Edward Booster Club. In addition to her parents, Sally was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Lawrence, her son Stephan Godfrey, her grandson Christopher Kerry Girard, her brother John King, her sisters Mary McCarthy and Jayne LaSarso, and her sister in law Mary Jane King. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Kathleen (Andrew) Chance, Theresa (Daniel) Girard, Mary Joy (Bill) Mosher and Patti (Kevin) O’Rourke; her son, John (Maryellen) Godfrey; daughter in-law Colleen Godfrey. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Greg (Renee) Chance, Meghan (Chris) Zito, Tim (Meghan) Chance, Stephanie (Jason) Birn, Scott Godfrey, Stephen (Angela) Girard, Peter (Jen) Girard, Danjo Girard, Stacey Girard, Shannon (Henry) Hunn, Brad Mosher, Erinn O’Rourke, Michael O’Rourke, John Godfrey, Samantha Godfrey, Alexandra Godfrey, Ashley Godfrey and Maddy Godfrey; as well as 19 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and in-laws. The family would like to thank her care giver Becky, the staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Home and the staff at the Glens Falls Hospital for the wonderful, compassionate care she received. Family and friends may call from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, May 25, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway Fort Edward, New York. A Funeral mass will be held at 9:30am Friday, May 26, at St. Joseph’s Church, Fort Edward, New York. Rite of committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
