Douglas E. Sherman Obituary

Douglas E. Sherman 84, passed away on Monday October 19 in Bennington, Vermont. He resided on Griffin Avenue in Hoosick Falls. Doug was the son of the late Clayton and Elma (Cushman) Sherman. Doug was born on January 18, 1931 in Troy, New York. He graduated from Albany Business College and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Doug worked for the State of New York Department of Transportation as a computer programer until retiring several years ago. Doug enjoyed playing classical music on the piano, playing at the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls and monthly at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. He also enjoyed traveling, to Maine every year and to Hawaii where he traveled five times. Survivors include his sister Carolyn Fitzpatrick and her children of Troy, New York, nephew Kevin Fitzpatrick, nieces Maureen Fitzpatrick and Jayne Carlson (Scott), their son Scott, also a great niece. Funeral services will be Friday October 30, at 11:00am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow in West Hoosick Cemetery in Hoosick, New York. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls or the Hoosick Historical Society through the funeral home.
