Helen Restino

Helen Catherine Restino (Sluzas) passed away on January 15, 2020 at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, the Honorable Thomas G. Restino Sr. Helen is the mother of Michele (Shelly) Restino (Christine), Gregory Restino (Kathy), Honorable Thomas G. Restino Jr. (Margaret), and Kathryn Mayer (Jeff). She is the grandmother of Toni, Greg Jr. (Amina), Kathleen, Anna, Jake, Drew, Lucas, and Rosey. She is the great grandmother of Liam, Misha, and Alina. Helen was the daughter of Walter and Helena (Butkas) Sluzas. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and after raising her children she became the Executive Director of the Town of Hoosick Housing Authority. She retired in 2000 after 23 years of service. She was the recipient of numerous awards for her tireless work for building affordable and senior housing in Hoosick Falls. In the early years, Helen’s passion was campaigning with her favorite Politician. Helen loved traveling with her husband Tom, entertaining family and friends at Hedges Lake, playing cards with her “girls” and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic volunteer and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and Catholic Daughters of America. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 18, 2020, at 10am, at the First United Church, Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY with Father Tom Zelker presiding. Calling hours will held at Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, on Friday January 17, 2020 from 5pm to 7pm. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery immediately following Mass. Donations in honor of Helen may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund, American Heart Association, American Legion Auxiliary, or American Diabetes Association.
