Norman George Scott, 96, a resident of 31 Snow Street, passed away Wednesday February 5th, at his home. He was born May 7, 1923, at the Red Cross Health Center on Hall Street in Hoosick Falls. Norman was the son of the late Norman and Marjorie (Bell) Scott. Upon Graduating from Walter A. Wood High School, he joined and served in the Marine Corp during World War II, on the U.S.S. Belleau Wood, in the Gunnery Department 5th Division. Norman married his high school sweetheart Kathryn Bender on June 30, 1945, she died in 1963. He then married the former Mary Jane (Hall) of Sunderland, VT, on March 21, 1964. They would have celebrated their 56th Anniversary next month. He was a former New York State Trooper and worked as a Hoosick Falls Police Officer for a time. He went on to work at Dodge Industries in 1964 and was a foreman in the tape department. He retired in 1988 from Allied Signal. In his younger days he enjoyed the summers at his camp at Hedges Lake. Just sitting around on a hot day with his toes in the water and a beer in his hand. Later years the highlight of the summer was a family day at Saratoga Race Track. He loved looking at the horses in the paddock area before each race. Living up to his Scotch Heritage a $2 bet on a race was his limit. Norman always looked forward to going to a yearly Rutgers football game with his sons Tom & Joe, before his health declined. He was an animal lover, always said they were better than people. He is sadly missed by his two cats Bronson and especially Libby his 19 year old lap cat. Besides his wife Mary, he is survived by his daughter Carol Ann (Nelson) Aubin, of Cheshire, MA, his son Thomas (Ellen) Scott of Hoosick Falls, NY, his daughter Barbara (Robert) Long of Pownal, VT, and his son Joe (Kate) Scott of Iselin, NJ, five grandchildren Jeff Aubin, Lori Fuller, Jeff Scott, Jeremy Scott and Katie Long, six great grandchildren Shane and Hannah Fuller, Samuel, Emmett, Charlie and Izzy Scott, also several nieces and a nephew. Norman was predeceased by his parents, his sister Marjorie Moses and a nephew Gary Moses. He was also predeceased by a very special great niece Maegan Becker whom I'm sure was waiting for him at heaven's door with a big hug. A private military service for the family will be held May 7th, on his birthday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon/Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. The Scott family would like to give special thanks to Jamie Borge, the Hospice Nurse/RN case manager, his support and reassurance of Norman's care made a difficult time a lot easier. We also wish to thank Sandy the LPN, for his personal care.
