Lee Travis, long-time resident of Wappingers Falls, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on May 18, 2017 in Vassar Brothers Medical Center of complications from pneumonia. Lee Lincoln Travis was born on July 14, 1928 in Putnam Valley, NY to George and Anna (Odell) Travis. After working on his family's farm, Lee joined the U.S. Army and served his country bravely as a tank driver during the Korean War and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Lee and Edna (Tilford) Travis were married in 1954. He was a devoted husband to “Babe” for 48 years and they delighted in taking road trips and entertaining at their farmhouse until her passing in 2002. Lee was skilled at heavy machinery. He was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers, Local 137 for many decades. His passion for farming continued throughout his life and the Travis Farm stand was well known locally. He enjoyed growing giant pumpkins to compete in the family contest for many years. He was an avid fan of westerns, country music and playing horse shoes at family get-togethers. Later in life he met his long-time companion Nancy Bohlin. They enjoyed traveling together including several cruises. Lee will be remembered fondly for his gentle and friendly nature. He was very close to his extended family who will always recall his entertaining stories.
