Margaret Schwinn, 88, an area resident since 1997 and formerly of Rockland County, NY, died on September 21, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on September 27, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Edward A. Martin & Margaret Rausch. Margaret was employed in the Assessor’s office for the Town of Orangetown for 13 years until her retirement in 1989. She volunteered at the Beekman Library, and was active in the Dalton Farm Home Owners’ Association. On May 6, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY, Margaret married Henry Schwinn who predeceased her in 1998. Two brothers, Joseph and Edward Martin, predeceased her as well. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Patricia and Roland Laffert of Wilton, NY, Stephen and Susan Schwinn of Pearl River, NY, and Susan and James Rockwell of Whiting, ME; her daughter-in-law, Sophia, widow of Margaret's son Eric of New York City; her granddaughter, Katherine Schwinn of Pearl River; her brother, John Martin and his wife Audrey of Catskill, NY; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be remembered for her bright smile, twinkling green eyes and her kindness.
