Richard Earl Varian Obituary

Richard Earl Varian, Sr. passed into God's waiting arms on December 16, 2018.

He was born in Yonkers, NY, on March 5, 1930, to Madeline (Abbott) and William N. Varian Sr. His brothers, William Jr. and Robert, predeceased him. He has a sister, Joy (Varian) Romanchik, whom he adored; she and her husband, Peter, reside in Yonkers, NY.

Richard attended Yonkers schools, and after graduating, joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. When he returned home, he became a proud member of Local 137 Operating Engineers in Briarcliff Manor, NY for over 40 years.

He married his loving wife June (Stricker) on June 20, 1953. They were married for 29 years until her passing. They had a son, Richard E. Varian, Jr., who resides in Pompano Beach, FL, with his wife, Elisa.

On Aug. 10, 1985, he married Loren (Von Husen DiMargo) and became a very happy stepdad to Carissa Joy DiMargo, who now lives in the D.C. area with her husband, Michael Rumerman, and their son, Leo Evan.

Richard loved golf and playing at Vassar Golf Course with his friend Hank.

He will always be remembered with a cup of coffee in his hand.

He loved with all his heart his wife, sister, children, nieces Linda and Gail, and precious one-year-old grandson.

Richard came into my life and swept me off my feet and gave me 33 years of pure joy, love and laughter. He was my best friend and the best husband I could have ever asked for, and all our adventures and memories will be cherished forever.
