Thomas Pentland

Thomas Russell Pentland, a resident of New York and formerly of Scotland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation & Extended Care Center in Highland. He was 83 years old. Thomas, who was affectionately known as Russ, Russell, Scotty, Tom, Dad, Uncle and Papa, was born November 21, 1933 in Leven, Fife, Scotland. He was son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Pentland. He is predeceased by sisters Margaret Webster and Betty Cooper. He is survived by sister Mona Patterson. On January 16, 1982, in Garnerville, NY, he married Elizabeth Anne (Henry) Pentland. They were married 16 years until her death on July 10, 1998. He is survived by their son William Pentland, his wife Megan and their son Thomas James. Thomas is survived by his adoptive daughter Laura McKiernan, her husband Robert and their children Ana and Brendan. He is also survived by his stepson Thomas Rodriguez, his wife Grace and their children Thomas Jr. and Victoria and his stepson David Rodriguez and his sons David Jr. and Sava and his adoptive daughter Sayeh. Thomas is predeceased by stepson Anthony Rodriguez. Thomas is also survived by his first wife, Elizabeth, and their two sons Graeme and Russell and their wives and children. Thomas is survived by many nieces and nephews living in the United Kingdom. Thomas will be remembered for his captivating storytelling, card games, quiet demeanor, dry wit and kindness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Lagrangeville, NY at 10 am. Thomas will be laid to rest alongside his wife at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus, NY. Thomas’ family thanks the entire staff at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation for their kindness, compassion and care.
