Charlotte Dodge Obituary

Charlotte Storm Dodge, 95, died peacefully on June 9, 2009 at the Methodist Country Home in Wilmington, DE. She was born (1913) in Hopewell Junction, NY to Charlotte and William T. Storm, and enjoyed growing up in this very small town of the 1920's and 30's, attending the 3-room schoolhouse and fishing at White Pond. She also loved having her maternal grandparents across the street from her home and her paternal grandparents and relatives living in Stormville. In later years, Charlotte, along with George Bailey, presented a popular narrative of Hopewell Junction life in those early years. Charlotte graduated from Hood College in MD with a Home Economics degree, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, living in Atlanta, GA, Nashville, TN, Wilbraham, MA, and Harrison, NY before returning to Hopewell in 1967. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Dodge, in 1971. During their years together, they enjoyed square dancing, gardening, music, theater and football games. Charlotte was a dedicated hospital volunteer and Girl Scout leader. Charlotte loved life and lived it to the fullest, traveling extensively throughout the US, Europe and Asia. She enjoyed all her adventures and the friends she made along the way. She was active in the Hopewell Reformed Church, the Wednesday Club, Hopewell Garden Club, Melzingah Chapter NSDAR, East Fishkill Community Library, East Fishkill Historical Society and the Historical Society of Duchess County. Throughout her life, her quick mind and keen sense of humor made her a favorite with all who knew her. Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Carol (Dan) Welch of Wilmington, DE and Judy (Joel) Gewirtz of Marco Island, FL, sister, Jean Fairley of Southport, NC, and 6 grandchildren, Larry (Carole) Rogers, Anne (Slayt) Lane, John (Dina) Rogers, Jennifer (Barry) Raber, Storm Gewirtz and Matthew Gewirtz. She will also be greatly missed by her 9 great-grandchildren and other loved family members. Her memorial service will be held at the Hopewell Reformed Church on October 17, 2009 at 2 pm.
