Fred Wilson Obituary

Fred “Freddie” Wilson Jr was born on January 4, 1945 in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Freddie was the second child born to the late Laura Henley and the late Fred Wilson Sr, both who preceded him in death. His stepdad, Foster S. Henley who he referred to as “Daddy,” raised Freddie from a very young age. Daddy Foster along with his sisters; Sandra and Laura, brothers; Foster, Lawrence, Raymond and Mario also preceded him in death. Throughout his childhood, Freddie attended Brooks Memorial Methodist Church, Jamaica, NY along with his younger brothers and sisters. Freddie attended New York City Public Schools. Shortly after attending high school, Freddie held many jobs throughout his life-time including being self-employed in construction. In 1971 Freddie met and married Betty Gardner and of that union Freddie became parent to Todd and Tina and helped raised them from the ages of 8 and 5 respectively. Years later, Freddie and Betty had Shakima and twin girls, Misty and Mia. After many years of marriage, Freddie & Betty decided to separate. Freddie later met Fatima who shared the past two decades by his side until the time of his death. Freddie “affectionately” referred to Fatima as his “lady-friend.” They travelled the world and vacationed together often. They especially enjoyed going to the movies and dancing! One of Freddie’s favorite past-times was hosting card parties and throwing food on the grill. Freddie lived life to the fullest! Freddie’s #1 past-time was “FISHING!” He and his fishing club buddies used to go on annual deep-sea fishing trips up to Massachusetts. Freddie certainly had a kind heart and was an extremely thoughtful and giving person. He did a lot for everyone (family, friends and neighbors). A lot of his kindness and awesome carpentry skills, transferred into his work. With so many years as a skilled carpenter, his work can be seen in neighborhoods all over New York City. Freddie always felt the need to impart his wisdom on those who he felt needed it “whether they asked for it or not!” He was going to make sure you knew where he was coming from. As he used to say “I’ve lived a full life….threescore years plus ten, and more; so I have no regrets in life!” Another one of Freddie’s mottos was “You should treat folks how you want to be treated; be nice to folks and you’ll be amazed how they will take care of you!” Even in recent years while facing his own health issues, Freddie always seem to muster up the energy to check on folks, ask how they’re doing, and then voluntarily give them a piece of advice. He was such a friendly man and even the doctors and nursing staff at Calvary Hospital all loved him. One of the nurses said “We are so close to Mr. Wilson, he’s so nice and he makes us laugh; I’m not supposed to tell you this but he’s my favorite patient.” We are most thankful that through the gentle ministering of his son Todd & Todd’s pastor (Wilton DeGraffe), Freddie gave his life to the Lord before God called him home on Saturday, July 1, 2017 @ Calvary Hospital at the age of 72. He leaves behind, his wife; Betty Wilson, (Son) Todd Lee & wife Demetria; (Daughters) Tina, Shakima, Misty and Mia; (Grandkids) Donnell, Darryl, Channelle, Theresa, Ashley, Rhonisha and Jasmine; (Brothers) Alonzo, Charles, Joseph, Darryl and Lamont and (Sisters) Tina, Denise and Crystal, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and friends. Freddie's passing will wholeheartedly be felt by many for years to come. As the family reflects back on his life and how he positively touched those who he came in contact with; it brings us a bit of comfort knowing that he made us laugh; smile and most of all he leaves such a remarkable lasting-impression. Freddie, we will miss you, but knowing that you are finally free of all the pain and suffering, we celebrate the fact that you are now with God! Freddie was cremated and his remains will be placed according to his wishes. Lovingly Submitted The Family
