Obituary
Violet Prudence Johnson was born to the late Nathaniel and Catherine Stanislaus in Brooklyn, New York on January 25, 1926. She was the youngest of eight children. She married Theodore Johnson and they were blessed with five children. Mom was predeceased by five of her siblings, her husband, and her two oldest children, Renee and Desmond. While mom was born, raised, and educated in Brooklyn, her roots were in Grenada, West Indies where all of her siblings were born and raised. She often traveled to Grenada to be with her beloved sister Judith, the oldest of the eight and the rest of her siblings and family. Vi, as she was affectionately known, was absolutely stunning and was very generous to all she came in contact with. She enjoyed socializing with her friends who were more like sisters, most of whom have gone on to be with the Lord. They traveled the world, celebrated each other, bowled in a league, and just enjoyed each others company. Mom loved spending time with her family. Sunday’s were the most exciting time of the week at her home. She would gather with family, friends and whomever her dear son Nathaniel would bring. There would always be plenty of food being prepared along with games being played, an intense television drama or just a time of reminiscing. Vi had a sidesplitting sense of humor. She would often keep you going with her quip remarks. One of our favorites is, “tie your belly in a knot…” On Wednesday, December 18, 2019, in the comfort of her home. Mom went home to be with the Lord. Left to cherish her memories are her beloved sisters, Judith and Tina (in Grenada, WI); sons Nathaniel and wife Pat, Kenneth, and Michael and Wife Pat; daughter/niece Hazel; grandchildren Andrae, Shana, Vaughn, Janelle, Kenia, Anastasia, and Kenton; great-grandchildren Maleek, Javeon, and Micah, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and caregivers who were all dear to her heart.
