Alex Lepak

Alex Lepak, 87, of Auburn, passed away after a long illness on October 15, 2013, at Rochester General Hospital. Mr. Lepak was born May 23, 1926, in Auburn to Joseph and Mary Molson Lepak. He attended West High School, leaving to proudly serve his country in the United States Army with the 180th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division. He served in France and Germany, including Munich and Nuremburg, as well as various locations in the U.S. He completed his GED at a later time. Alex married Luba Stepaniuk on June 12, 1948 in St. Alphonsus Church, and they recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. During his life he was active in softball, bowling and shuffleboard. He coached little league and pony league. He and his brother Andy were well known umpires for high school baseball throughout central New York. He was a co-manager of the former West End Bowling Alleys. He was formerly employed by Firth Carpet, ALCO, New Process Gear, and retired from the City of Auburn in 1988. He is survived by his wife Luba, two sons, Allen (Joan) Lepak of Auburn and Robert (Nancy) Lepak of Saranac Lake, and his sister Antoinette Coles of Dallas, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren Mark (Abbey) Lepak of Auburn Kevin (Michelle) Lepak of Warners, Kimberly (Rob) Schwanke of Jamesville, and Sarah Lepak of Saranac Lake, great grandchildren Maeve and Aiden Lepak, and Evan and Ryan Schwanke, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved dog Cheyenne. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers John, William, Peter, Andrew and Stephen, and sisters Mary Wenderlich and Anne Kromer. Alex was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with all his family who he loved dearly. The family greatly appreciates the love, kindness, and generous support provided by family members and friends the last few years. Great appreciation is extended to the staff at Auburn Community Hospital, Blossom View Nursing Home in Rochester, and Rochester General Hospital, for their kindness and wonderful care given to Alex. Friends are invited to call Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Plis Funeral Home, 220 State St. Auburn. Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Alex's memory to ones charity of choice.
