George Schmidt

George E. Schmidt, 96, of Howlett Hill passed away Thursday November 28, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Lafayette, NY to the late Emanuel and Rena Schmidt, George retired from Jaquith Industries in 1979. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Pacific theater during WWII, and former member of the Otisco Valley VFW. George was a true farmer at heart. He loved to ride his tractor, garden, and had an amazing green thumb. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1994. George is survived by his daughter Susan (Mike) Hainey of Howlett Hill; grandsons Shane and Patrick (Vicki) Hainey; great granddaughter Zoe Hainey; step daughters Sharon Armstrong and Nancy Annable; half brother Henry and half sisters MaryAnn, Gloria, Irene and Joyce. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and enjoyed a particularly close relationship with Sandy Marshall, Rena Tindell, Harold and George Orlando and Alfred Plumpton. Services for George will be 11 a.m. Monday December 2 at the Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St., Marcellus. Calling hours will be from 10-11 am. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, American Heart Association or the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation.
