Joseph C. Emperor

Joseph C. Emperor, 89, of Auburn, departed this life Saturday, August 20, 2011. “Joey” was born December 30, 1921 to Daniel and Margaret Curtin Emperor. Growing up in Auburn, he was a member of Fr. Davie��(TM)s Holy Family basketball, baseball and football teams. He was a decorated and wounded Army Air Corp veteran of WW II, serving with the CBI 468th Bomb Group, 792nd Squadron, with over 60 missions, including the first raid on Tokyo. Returning to Auburn, he worked for the Columbian Rope Co. as a machinist, and as a member of their Baseball Team. He then worked as a serviceman in Auburn for National Cash Register. He was promoted to Ithaca and Pittsfield, MA, and retired as an administrator in Dover, NH, following 47 years of service with NCR. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Civitan International , building care homes for the mentally handicapped. He enjoyed bowling, including a perfect game, and coaching Little League baseball where he instilled a love for the game to all, including a future Major Leaguer. Joe loved the ocean and trees, but could never grow a lawn. He dreamed of traveling. He was a peacemaker, and dedicated his life to his family, country, and friends. He returned in 2009 to complete his life in Auburn, which he called home. Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline E. Gonza Emperor, his son and daughter-in-law Timothy J. and Jane M. Emperor , all of Auburn, a grandchild, and several nieces and nephews including John Emperor, Sharon Hoyer, Russell, Christopher and Tom Harkins, Laurie Kreydatus and Patricia Schmidt. He was pre-deceased by his brother John Emperor who died serving his country in WW II. Services for Mr. Emperor will be at 9 A.M. Friday, from the Plis Funeral Home, and 9:30 A.M. in SS Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be with Military Honors in St. Joseph��(TM)s Cemetery.
