Josephine Feneck Bender Obituary

Josephine Feneck Bender, 93, of Throop, died Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Josephine was born September 5, 1921 to the late Liborio and Lena Versaggi Feneck in Oakfield, NY, where she lived until moving to Auburn in 1935. She was a 1939 graduate of Auburn Senior High School. She was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Woman's Army Corp from 1944-46. She was employed by all the shoe companies of Auburn, starting with Marshall, Meadows & Stewart, and retiring from Dunn-McCarthy in 1974. She was a communicant of St. Hyacinth's church, and formerly belonged to St. Aloysius Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She lived most of her life in Auburn, moving to Throop with her daughter and son-in-law. She moved with them to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2006, returning to Throop in 2011. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt, whose life centered around God, the Blessed Mother, her family and friends. She had a big heart, and was an excellent cook and baker. She was a faithful New York Yankee fan. Josephine is survived by her daughter Lorraine Jedra, and grandchildren Lori (Edward) Betancourt, Lisa (Scott) Carey, Steven (Brenda) Jedra and Cynthia Jedra, grandchildren Meghan and Joseph Betancourt, Nicole and Rachel Carey, Joshua and Jordan Jedra, Jennifer Jedra, Alexander, Robert and Catherine Temple. Also surviving are her sisters Millie LaVarnway and Nina Milliman, sister-in-law Priscilla Feneck and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Hugh L. Bender, whom she married in 1947, after 30 years of marriage, her son-in-law Ronald H. Jedra in 2009, grandsons Richard and Ronald Jr., sisters Mary Hulik, Margaret Srokose, Jennie Green and Catherine Sliwka, and brothers Joseph, Anthony and Samuel Feneck. Funeral services for Mrs. Bender will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday from the Plis Funeral Home, and 10 A.M. in St. Hyacinth's Church. Burial will be with Military Honors in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St. Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Hyacinth's Church or Matthew House.
