Mary Ann Kotzer Coleman Obituary

Mary Ann Kotzer Coleman of North Syracuse passed away peacefully on February 6, 2014. Mrs. Coleman was born in Auburn on Leap Day (February 29th), 1936 to Wasko and Mary Chutko Kotzer. She grew up to be as rare of a Mom and Grandma as any "Leap Day" baby could be. Mary's life was full of joy and fun. The cancer that took her life far too soon did not diminish the pleasure she took in some everyday things like making the best tuna salad ever! And her pierogis halupsi and beef stew are legendary. Though she had not a drop of Italian in her, everyone regarded her lasagna as the best. Mary is survived by her husband Fred Coleman Jr., her daughters Susan 9Michael Gridley Jr, 0 and Barbara, and sons Frederick (Chris Jackola) and Robert, and her adoring grandchildren Rachel (her favorite), Alexander (also her favorite) Carina (another favorite) and Angelina (definitely her favorite. She will be sorely missed by her sisters Emily (Donald) Young -, and Barbara (Jim) Kotzer-Roschick and brother Paul (Helen) Kotzer, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Olga Acker and brother Peter Kotzer. The family thanks Hematology Oncology Associates for their persistent quest in helping Mary through her disease. Funeral services for Mrs. Kotzer will be at 9 A.M. Monday, from the Plis Funeral Home, and 9:30 A.M. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, half Acre. Friends are invited to call Sunday, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St., Auburn. Mary frequently sent money to relatives in Europe, and the family requests donations to Fred to continue Mary's work. Read Mary Ann Coleman's Obituary and Guestbook on www.plisfuneralhome.com.
