Mrs. Barbara J. McDonald, 72, of 748 Drum Street Road, Akwesasne, died early Thursday (December 28, 2006) morning at Alice Hyde Medical Center, where she had been a patient since December 20th. She was born September 27, 1934 in Brushton, the daughter of Joseph W. and Gladys (Lauber) Kimball. She graduated from Brushton High School in 1953 and from the Crouse Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse in 1954. She married Mose R. McDonald, Jr, on November 12, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brushton. She was a practical nurse at Massena Memorial Hospital, until moving to Niagara Falls. While living in Niagara Falls, she worked at the Niagara Falls Hospital, until she and her husband moved back to the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation. After her children were grown, she worked for Teddy and Carrie LaFrance and made baskets with her mother-in-law, Mary McDonald. She was a communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Akwesasne Senior Citizens. She was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals and traveling in her motorhome. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed golfing and crocheting. She also enjoyed bowling for many years, having belonged to the Moira Ladies Bowling League and followed many state tournaments. Her greatest enjoyment was raising her 4 children. She is survived by her husband, Mose R. her mother, Gladys Kimball, Brushton 4 children and their spouses: Jackie and Eugene Tarbell, Akwesasne Regina and Robert Dufrane, Havlock, North Carolina Candace and Martin Crandall, Syracuse Steve and Tammy McDonald, Nicholville 8 grandchildren her brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Helen Kimball, Wingdale nieces and nephews She was predeceased by her father, Joseph W. Kimball Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 1:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Belgarde, SJ, celebrating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Akwesasne. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Akwesasne Senior Citizens.
