MASSENA – Services will be held privately for Mrs. Jeanette M. Abraham, 102, of Leslie Road, with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Massena.

Jeanette was born Christmas Day, December 25, 1914 in Ithaca, the daughter Abraham and Thresa Joseph Deeb and passed away in the evening hours on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, with her family by her side. She had recently been a resident of the Highland Nursing Home.

Jeanette attended schools in Ithaca, leaving school at a young age to start working to help provide for her brother’s education. On September 10, 1939, she married Michael G. Abraham at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ithaca with Rev. Archim Michael Khallouf, a Syrian Priest, officiating. Michael predeceased her on February 25, 1985. After their marriage they moved to Massena, where they operated the Woodlawn Public Market (Abraham’s Market) on Woodlawn Ave for 47 years. She was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Massena and former member of the Massena Senior Citizens and the Cretona Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was an over 60-year member. Jeannette had a great passion for flower gardening and was a member of the Massena Garden Club for over 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, doing volunteer work for her community, taking long walks, and reading.

Jeanette is survived by her sons and their wives, Michael and Beverly Abraham of Baltimore, Maryland and John and Georgia Abraham of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Jeanette was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Bonanni and Mary Sperring and her brothers, Lewis, Sam, and Leo Deeb.
