Rosamond (Roz) Franklin March, born October 7, 1921 in the Bronx, to Elsie Zimmer & Ernest Franklin, passed away at age 96 on April 28, 2018 in NYC. Roz attended Hunter College, Columbia University, & The New School of Social Research. Roz started her career in Public Relations & in 1964 found her love for Civil Service. She achieved many senior positions in the NYC government. Roz worked in the administrations of Mayors Wagner, Lindsay, Beame, Koch, Dinkins & retired during Giuliani. In 1972 Roz was Executive Director of the NY County Liberal Party. Roz was a Feminist, fought for pay equity & had a deep passion to fight domestic violence. She was Co-Founder of the organization now renamed the Center Against Domestic Violence. Roz co-wrote the proposal establishing the pilot program for battered woman & their children. Roz petitioned governors to increase the marriage license tax to fund spousal abuse programs. When Roz wasn’t fighting an important cause, she enjoyed the arts & saved many stray cats in the streets of Manhattan. These are just a few of her accomplishments.
