Daphne Ramirez

Daphne Ramirez (Señorita) a former Spanish teacher at Nyack High School, passed away early Wednesday morning at Nyack Hospital after a short illness. Señorita was born November 4. 1917 in New York City to Enrique and Maria Ramirez. She attended Columbia University and City College. She moved to Nyack in 1941 and was hired by Nyack School District Superintendent Raymond MacCalman to work in the Spanish department in 1949. She taught Spanish at Nyack High School for 37 years and retired in 1986. She is predeceased by her beloved sister Dr. Diana Ramirez. She is survived by her beloved sister, Maria T. Ramirez of Nyack. Señorita was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:00 am at St. Ann’s Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack with burial to follow at the family plot at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet. A wake will be held at the Hannemann Funeral Home on Monday, June 19 from 2-4pm. Donations in her memory can be made to The Nyack Indian Foundation, PO Box 950, Nyack, NY 10960.
