Francis Cooney

Francis E. Cooney, Sr., (a/k/a) Poppy , Fran, Poogie) soared into the arms of the angels on September 18, 2017. He was born in Lynn, MA on January 18, 1937 to Hazel and Loring Cooney. Poogie was a proud graduate of Lynn English High School and Salem State Teachers College and, thereafter, taught in the Clarkstown Central School District where he met his wife, Joan M. Hanley (predeceased). Fran is survived by his five loving children, Mary, Maureen, Daniel, Kathryn and Francis E. , Jr., (Ted); his nine cherished grandchildren, Joanie, Shane, DJ, Bella, Faith, Sammy, Danielle, Grace and Claire as well as his beloved siblings, Margie, Jack and Billy (predeceased). The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22nd , 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for viewing at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 895 Piermont Avenue, Piermont, N.Y. , and Poppy’s life will be celebrated at a mass of Christian burial, also, to be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Piermont, N.Y., on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Ascension Cemetery in Monsey, N.Y.
