Herbert Hauser NYACK, New York Obituary

Herbert Hauser

Herbert B. Hauser, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Herb lived every minute of his almost 90 years, bringing love, laughter, and joy to all around him. He will be missed beyond words. Herb was born on November 24, 1929 to Herbert Bernard Hauser and Mary Flynn Hauser. One of five children, Herb was predeceased by his siblings Jean Allen, Edna Woehr, and Edward Hauser, and his Aunt Ethel and cousin Owen Geary. He often described an idyllic childhood in Jamaica, Queens, delivering “fine meats and vegetables” for Pitha’s Market, playing baseball with friends, serving as an altar boy at Our Lady of the Cenacle, attending Our Lady Queen of Martyrs and Bishop Loughlin High School, and graduating from St. John’s University. He loved playing basketball, betting the horses, and spending time with his family. Herb served in the U.S. Army 43rd Infantry Division during the Korean War and was shipped overseas. His Army service played a pivotal role in the man he became, and he treasured this experience. Upon returning to New York, Herb began a 30-year career with 3M Company. His co-workers became lifelong friends who enjoyed his wit and sense of humor. Herb met his future wife, Margaret Mary Henebry, at Jug End Barn in the Catskills. They wed in 1958. During their 60+ years together, they raised three children, Jill (Matt); Wendy (Jimmy); and Herbert, Jr. “HB” (Kim); and had seven grandchildren, Alexis and Gillian Greenberg; James Daniel “JD” and Katherine McPartlan; Christopher, Nicole and Brad Hauser. Herb favored a simple life. Playing Red Rover in the backyard with his kids, taking his wife to dinner, attending school functions for his grandchildren, going to Belmont Race Track, and cheering on the New York Giants. His motto, “You can’t go wrong doing the right thing,” served his children and grandchildren well, and will be one of his many lasting legacies. Herb is survived by his family; his sister, Catherine Sullivan, 99; and many, many nieces and nephews who brought him great happiness, especially when reminiscing about wonderful times in the past. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi RC Church in West Nyack, NY. Burial will be private at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers, New York. “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways....I love thee with the breath, smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.”
