Richard K. Barkley Obituary

Richard Keith Barkley Sr., 86 of Plattsburgh, joined his heavenly family on April 19th, 2021, as the sun rose on his beloved Adirondacks. He was a lifelong resident of the North Country. He was raised in the French Quarter of Plattsburgh, the handsome and charming son of Pearl Mayette Barkley. He was a graduate of MAI. He married his wife, Ethel Normandin in 1954, soon to celebrate 67 years together. Dick was, over the years, a delivery driver for local bakeries and dairy’s, learned tailoring and upholstering and became an expert in small engine and machine repair. The career path he was most proud of was his skills as a carpenter, having been involved with the construction of the PSUC Stafford Sports Complex and many homes in Plattsburgh with Ralph Filion and other small construction firms. In 1985, “Tricky” was honored to become the “4th Ward Irishman of the Year”. He was involved annually with their various charities, especially enjoying shopping at Christmas time with Hector, Stan, Skip and others, to benefit the Christmas Bureau and Toys for Tots. Dick was a great outdoorsman, spending much of his time at camp, the lake, the river, the pond, the field, the wood, the mountain. He was an active member in many hunting and fishing clubs including “Round Lake Club” of Sabattis and Chateaugay. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Ethel and the pride of his lifetime, his children, and their spouses, Kim Mason (Robert), Shawn Shipman (Michael), Richard Barkley Jr., Mark Barkley (TerryJo), his treasured grand children Rob Mason (Michelle), Amber Boone (Tyson), Jon Braden (Kati), Sean Michael Shipman (Shannon), Sabrina McCulloch (Michael), Theressa Lemza (Aaron), Shana Tooley (William), Maria Grace Chacon (Andy), Aimee Lyons (Jamar) and his precious great-grandchildren Ailah, Evan, Caily, Aiden, Lillian, Adelaide, Sophia, Kerrianna, Alexa and Kason. In addition to his mother, Dick was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey, granddaughter Tricia and his sister Gail. Dick requested no formal services on his passing. He hoped you would celebrate his memory by mentoring the youth in your life in your favorite outdoor sport or activity. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
