Amelia A. Weems

<p>WEST PARISHVILLE – Mrs. Amelia Ann (Bush) Weems, 94, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2017 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since March 2015.</p><p><br></p><p>Amelia was born November 3, 1922 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Archie and Elizabeth Smith Bush and was a graduate of Potsdam High School. On June 14, 1944, she married Albert S. Weems at their home in West Parishville. He predeceased her on April 6, 2010. </p><p><br></p><p>Amelia and her late husband operated a dairy farm for many years. She also worked for a time at Potsdam Hospital as a nurse’s aide and was a rural mail carrier at one time. She was a hard worker who dedicated her time to her children and later her grandchildren. After her retirements, she enjoyed helping at various functions at the Hannawa Falls Methodist Church. Amelia was also very involved in the Eastern Star, serving as the Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1967, 1972, 1988, 1989, 1992, 1993, and 1996 as well as the Grand Representative of the Province of New Brunswick near the Grand Chapter of New York in 1976, 1977, and 1978. </p><p><br></p><p>Amelia is survived by her children and their spouses, Sally and Hugh Newton of Hannawa Falls; Lynda and Carson James of Hannawa Falls; Carol and Duane Irish of West Parishville; and Bill and Susan Weems of West Parishville; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Randy) LaBelle, Eric Newton (Amanda Pearson), Patty McCarthy (Scott Hodge), Robin (Dale) Harper, Brad (Roxanne) James, Sara Myers (Calvin Sharlow), Amy Irish-Bicknell (Justin Hicks), Christopher (Erica) Weems, and Benjamin (Hayna) Weems; many great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her parents and her husband, Amelia was predeceased by 15 brothers and sisters.</p><p><br></p><p>Friends may call Thursday 4-7:00 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where funeral services will be held Friday 2:00 PM with Rev. Lee Sweeney, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, West Parishville. The members of the Eastern Star will meet Thursday at 6:30PM for a memorial ritual.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider Helping Hands of Potsdam or the Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
