Francis G. Montroy Obituary

PARISHVILLE – Mr. Francis G. “Babe” Montroy, 90, of 1040 State Highway 72, passed away Thursday morning, December 1, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.


Babe was born July 16, 1926 in Ogdensburg, the son of the late Francis Morgan and Irene Ladouceur Montroy and attended Ogdensburg Free Academy. On October 17, 1944, he entered the US Navy, serving as a Fireman 1st Class SV6 on the USS Lexington. He was a decorated WWII Veteran having been awarded the Medal of Occupation, American Theatre Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 1 Star. He was honorably discharged on June 18, 1946. In 1946, he married Dolores Swan in Ogdensburg, she predeceased him in January 2000. He later married Katherine “Kate” Williams Huff Palmer, she survives.


Babe worked for a time as a presser for the Ogdensburg Journal and later as a truck driver for Madden’s, George Hall, and Augsbury and was a member of the American Legion.


Babe is survived by his wife of 13 years, Kate; his children, George Montroy of Florida; Christine Lupia of Florida; Sandra Patenaude of Parishville; Nancy Bouchard of New York City; Mike Montroy of Florida; his stepchildren, Joanne Langevin of Michigan; Deborah Colton of Russell; Gerald Huff of Potsdam; and Linda Thayer of Hermon; his grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, and Rachel Lupia and Jessica Bouchard; and 4 great grandchildren; his sister, Theresa Ploof of Vermont; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents and his first wife, Babe was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Richard, and Vincent Montroy and his sister, Barbara Bailey.


There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held Friday at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Parishville, with Rev. Stephen Rocker, officiating.


Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Foundation.
