Gary R. Grant
<p>NORWOOD – Mr. Gary R. Grant, 80, of 2128 County Route 35, peacefully passed away Wednesday evening, June 29, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital, after a brief illness.</p><p><br></p><p>Gary was born December 4, 1936 in Norwood, the son of the late Ronald and Bernice (LaClair) Grant and was a 1957 graduate of Potsdam High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On May 27, 1989, he married Christine M. Perry in West Potsdam. A previous marriage to Ingrid Strauss ended in divorce. </p><p><br></p><p>Gary worked for a short time at General Motor and Alcoa before starting a career with Pahler Meat Packing Company in Potsdam, retiring after 22 years of service. He later drove dump truck for various local contractors until his retirement in 1999. Gary also served his community as a member of the West Potsdam Fire Department, serving as Chief at one time. He also was an active Fire Police with the St. Lawrence County Fire Police. He enjoyed camping, watching hockey, his computer, and watching television.</p><p><br></p><p>Gary is survived by his wife, Christine; his sons, Michael Grant, Brian and April Grant, Shawn Grant, and Scott Grant, all of Potsdam; his step son, Steven Parker of California; his grandchildren, Kyle, Kalie, Brianna, and Cooper; his step-grandchildren, Jonathan, Troy, and Rose; and his brother, Donald and Alice Grant of Parishville.</p><p><br></p><p>There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with a Fireman’s Memorial Ritual and Military Honors will be held July 15, 2017, 11:00 AM at Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam with Pastor Lee Sweeney, officiating. </p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made in his memory may be made to the West Potsdam Fire Department and First Responders, 801 County Route 34, Potsdam, NY 13676.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>Obituary
