STANKA KRATOHVIL

Dr. Stanka Kratohvil, 89, of Potsdam, NY, passed away at her home on September 9, 2017.

Stanka was born on May 30, 1928 in Zagreb, Croatia to Ivo and Irma Babic. She attended public schools in Zagreb. She received her bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Zagreb in 1952 and her doctoral degree in physical chemistry in 1956. She served as a junior faculty member at the University of Zagreb for several years.

In 1952, she married Josip Kratohvil. Together they immigrated to the United States in 1960. For 26 years, she worked at Clarkson University as a research chemist. She is the co-author of 25 scientific papers in the area of colloid chemistry.

She had a lifelong desire for knowledge and was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music. She loved to entertain and was an excellent cook often preparing traditional Croatian meals for her family, friends and visitors from other countries.

She is survived by Josip, her husband of 65 years; her daughters, Vlasta Pinkston and Doris Walls; five grandchildren, Megan and Eric Pinkston; Cameron, Harrison and Caleb Walls.

At Stanka's request, there will not be a service. Donations may be made in Stanka's name to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US-11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
