T. Lawrence Roberts Obituary

PARISHVILLE – Mr. T. Lawrence “Larry” Roberts, 83, of 64 Coon Drive, unexpectedly passed away Sunday morning, October 1, 2017 at his home.

Larry was born February 23, 1934 in St. John’s, New Brunswick, the son of the late Catherine “Bea” Larter and step-son of Thurston Smith. He was raised in St. Stephen’s, New Brunswick, where he attended schools. As a young man, he along with his mother and step-father moved to Potsdam, where he met the love of his life, Betty Hinman, marrying on June 19, 1954 at St. John the Baptist Church in Madrid.

At the age of 17, Larry started working for Loblaw’s Grocery Store and later with the Great American. He was a meat cutter for them and retired as the Meat Manager after 45 years of service. Larry was also active in his community as a former member of the West Potsdam Fire Department, serving as their treasurer for many years. Larry had a great passion for antiques; he was an avid antique restorer, collector, and dealer with a great fondness for oil lamps. He was a self-taught woodworker and furniture builder having built numerous hall trees, making sure that each of his children and grandchildren had one for their home. Larry also enjoyed bowling and hunting.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty; his daughters, Cindy Goliber and her husband Joe of Potsdam; and Jo Ann Roberts of Colton; his grandchildren, Joey Goliber and his wife, Nikita of Madrid; Kristin Richardson and her husband, Zach of Ballston Spa; Cara Adams and her husband, Bernie of Potsdam; and Abby McNamara of Colton; his great grandchildren, Alexis, Maddox, Cordelia, and Cameron; his sister, Patricia Roberts of Squamish, British Columbia; and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8:00 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Parishville.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the West Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department or the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
