To the family of John DeCosta JR. My condolences to you and your family. John and I spoke about back in August and I sent him some litature he requested. Today my letter from Aug came back undeliverable due to a bad address. When I tried googling his name and address I see where John passed away shortly after we spoke. I’m so sorry to hear this. You are in our thoughts and prayers here in Louisiana. May John RIP and may perpetual light shine upon him

Johnny's family in NC are all very heart broken and shocked at the news of his passing. We all wish that we could be with family to comfort and to share in all the wonderful memories that we have of him. In our younger years, and only two weeks apart, Johnny was like a brother to me. Time, distance, and just life in general never diminished the bond we had. In the past year or so we reconnected and shared letters, cards and phone calls - it was like no time had passed between us. He was a gentle and kind man and my heart just breaks for his family in NY who were the closest to him. Johnny lives in all our hearts and will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His cousin Jo-Ann and Family

Words can not express how much I will miss you my cousin. I'm so heartbroken and shocked. The only solace I can give to myself is knowing you are at peace and to know how happy you must be. You were a man of such great faith and a man who missed his parents and little brother, Jimmy, everyday of your life. I will be forever grateful for the bond we had and for all the times you and I shared together. Dad and Aunt Vera will also miss you very much. Please watch over them and the entire family always. You will never be forgotten cousin. I love you and always will Johnny "Boy"

I met John at the Dutchess County YMCA many years ago. We quickly became friends and ran a few thousand miles together over the years. We often had very thoughtful and insightful conversations about a variety of topics during our runs. I have many fond memories of John and am deeply saddened by his passing. My sincere condolences to his brother, sister and to all who loved him. Eileen Sylvia
