Joseph Ward, the son of the late Charlie Sr. and Frances Ward was born in Wagram, North Carolina on Tuesday, November 19, 1946. As a young boy he attended school in North Carolina and became a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church where he was baptized. He met the love of his life Lorraine, and from that meeting they married and began their life journey together. While living in Brooklyn he worked at a printing firm and later went on to work for the Brooklyn Union Gas Company for several years. The family moved to Springfield Massachusetts and he became a manager at A&P Supermarkets. After several years of working at the A&P in Springfield he decided to make a career change.
