Eleanor E. Abbe Eleanor E. Abbe, 88, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010 with her loving family by her side. Eleanor was born in New York Mills, NY on June 26, 1921, a daughter of the late Fred and Edith Leach Hemming. She graduated from Westmoreland Central School, class of 1940. On April 27, 1957 she was united in marriage to Giles E. Abbe at the Bartlett Baptist Church. Eleanor and Giles shared a wonderful marriage of mutual love and devotion for almost 51 years. Giles died March 18, 2008. The couple owned and operated Abbe’s Dairy until their retirement in 1986. Eleanor was a long time member of the Stanwix Heights Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Bartlett Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and Westlanders Senior Citizen Group. Eleanor was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting and was a wonderful baker who was well known for her pies. She is survived by daughters, Lorraine Mandell of Florida, Audrey Kessler of North Carolina, daughters and sons in law, Linda and John Storey, and Michele and James Oakes; a son Aaron Abbe, and a very special granddaughter, Jaime Kierpiec all of Westmoreland; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Also surviving are a brother in law William Abbe and sisters in law Lucille Abbe, R. Mary Hammond and Hattie LaLonde. Eleanor was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Fay, her brothers, Bernard and Fredrick Hemming, and great-grandson James Cieri. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Kirkland Cemetery. Relative and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday 3 to 7 PM, prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bartlett Baptist Church or the Stanwix Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
