Salvatore A. Magliocca Rome, New York Obituary

Salvatore A. Magliocca

Salvatore “Sam” A. Magliocca, age 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2017. He was born January 30, 1928, in Rome, a son of the late Joseph and Pauline Dellork Magliocca and attended Rome schools. Sam was united in marriage to the former Frances Rappa, on May 19, 1951, in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Utica, a blessed marriage of 65 years. He worked for several trucking companies including Coleman Brothers and Red Star Express, from which he retired in 1990. He was very proud of receiving the Million Mile Accident Free Award for driving over a million accident free miles, all on local Central New York deliveries. Sam had a special love for his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was an avid NY Yankees, NY Giants and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan. For years, he enjoyed his annual trip to the New York State Fair. He was a person who could fix most anything and worked on and repaired his own cars and other equipment well into his 80’s. Lastly, he was always willing to give helpful neighborly advice on the “right” way to do repair or home improvement work. Sam is survived by his wife, Frances; two daughters and sons in law, Lori and Karl Ewanyk of Floyd, and Linda and Anthony Tomassi of Lighthouse Point, FL; a son and daughter in law, Gary A. and Christine Magliocca of Lee Center; grandchildren, Nicole Ewanyk and Kelby, and Angela Tomassi and Robert; three great grandchildren, Kaleb and Blake Miller, and Dominick Avard; a sister in law, Carol Magliocca of Lee Center; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Antoinette Taliani and Marie Capoccia, and brothers Frank and Joseph Magliocca. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wing 1, at the Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehab Center, for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Sam the past several months. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Abraham Esper, will be held Monday at 11:00 AM, at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Rome.
