Santa L. Wrinkle Obituary

Santa L. Wrinkle, age 95, of Lee, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2017. Santa was born in Frankfort, NY on June 7, 1922 to the late Nicholas and Santa “Sadie” Calamanci Lomando. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1943. She proudly served her country during World War II as a WAC in the U.S. Army. On June 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jerry L. Wrinkle at St. John’s Church on River Street in Rome; a blessed union of 60 years until his passing on August 11, 2013. Santa worked as a clerk typist at Griffiss AFB and later, was a homemaker, raising her two children. Santa was a life member of the Lee American Legion and the Rome VFW. She also taught Sunday school at St. Mary’s Church in Cooperstown. Santa’s military story is featured in the WAC recruiter museum located in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. Santa is survived by her daughter and son in law, Maria and John Platts of Shallotte, NC; and a son, Gary Wrinkle of Lee; two grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Platts; her constant K-9 companion, Rusty; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Manno and Jennie Bessette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial with military honors will be at St. John’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Monday from 5 to 7 PM.
