Stephanie P. Carmody, age 98, of Rome, passed away peacefully, at home, on August 17, 2017. Stephanie was born March 15, 1919, in Rome, a daughter of the late Frances (Muszynski) Prozny and John Prozny, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1938. She was united in marriage on August 24, 1953, to the late Eugene G. Carmody, in Transfiguration of Our Lord Church. Stephanie worked as a beautician at the family owned, Mickey’s Beauty Salon and later at the family owned Prozny Liquor Store. She was a licensed fraternal life insurance broker at Polish Roman Catholic Union of America from 1961-1990, first as sales associate, then as director for New York State and Treasurer. Stephanie also worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Transfiguration School from 1975-1983. At Transfiguration Church, Stephanie was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Mother’s Club, and the St. Cecelia Choir. She was strong in her faith and in maintaining her Polish heritage and traditions. Her secret to a long life was daily Mass and blueberries. She also enjoyed golfing, knitting, traveling, and was an avid reader. Among her accomplishments, she earned a single engine pilot’s license in hopes of joining the WASP (Women’s Airforce Service Pilots) in 1941. She delighted in her family and in her roles as mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Stephanie is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Mitchell and Virginia Carmody of Syracuse, and Edward and Virginia Carmody of Exeter, NH; four grandchildren, Mitchell Riley, Christina, Jay, and Veronica; several nieces and nephews; and her loving neighbors, Beverly and Brad Edwards. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Carmody; three sisters, Michaeline Czajkowski, Mary Krenitsky, and Helen Geary; and two brothers, Stanley Prozny and Rev. Leopold Prozny. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 10 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM at the Transfiguration of Our Lord Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, 210 E.
